Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES): This scheme provides financial incentives in the form of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for installing eligible renewable energy systems, including solar panels. The value of STCs depends on factors such as the system size, location, and the market price of STCs.

This scheme aims to encourage the uptake of renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by making it more affordable for households and businesses to install renewable energy systems. STCs can be traded on the open market or sold to registered agents who can then sell them to electricity retailers to meet their renewable energy targets.

To be eligible for STCs, the renewable energy system must be installed by a Clean Energy Council accredited installer and comply with relevant standards and guidelines. The number of STCs generated by a system is calculated based on the amount of renewable energy it is expected to produce over its lifetime.

The SRES is a key component of Australia’s renewable energy policy and has been instrumental in driving the uptake of rooftop Solar panels and other small-scale renewable energy systems across the country. It provides a financial incentive for individuals and businesses to invest in renewable energy, helping to reduce electricity bills, decrease reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
