Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES): This federal government initiative provides financial incentives in the form of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for eligible solar PV systems up to 100kW. The number of STCs received depends on the system’s size, location, and the amount of renewable energy it is expected to generate over its lifetime.

STCs are created based on the amount of renewable energy the system is expected to produce over a 15-year period, as determined by the Clean Energy Regulator. The value of STCs can fluctuate depending on market conditions, but they can be sold or traded to recoup some of the upfront costs of installing a Solar PV system.

The SRES aims to increase the uptake of renewable energy technologies by reducing the cost barriers for households and businesses to install Solar PV systems. By providing financial incentives, the government hopes to encourage more people to generate their own clean energy and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.

To be eligible for the SRES, Solar PV systems must be installed by a Clean Energy Council-accredited installer and meet certain quality and safety standards. The scheme is available to residential, commercial, and community buildings, with different incentives available for each sector.

Overall, the SRES is an important initiative in Australia’s transition to a low-carbon economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By supporting the uptake of renewable energy technologies, the government is helping to drive down energy costs, create jobs in the clean energy sector, and reduce our environmental impact.
