The aim of the Solar for Rentals program is to help reduce electricity costs for both landlords and tenants, as well as increase the uptake of renewable energy in the state. Landlords can access interest-free loans of up to $4,500 for a Solar system, and up to $6,000 for a Solar and battery system. Tenants can also benefit from lower electricity bills, as the program allows landlords to pass on the savings from Solar generation to their tenants.
To be eligible for the program, landlords must have a rental property in one of the selected suburbs and be able to match the loan amount with their own funds. Tenants must have the landlord’s permission to participate in the program and agree to a minimum lease term of three years.
The Solar for Rentals program is just one of the initiatives offered by the Queensland government to support the uptake of Solar energy in the state. By encouraging landlords and tenants to invest in Solar and battery installations, the program aims to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient rental market in Queensland.
